It is very important to understand in Spanish who is responsible for an action. Remember that in Spanish, verbs change depending on tense, mood and grammatical person. If this is clear, verb conjugation is easy!
There are three types of grammatical person and each type is divided into singular and plural.
First person: Let’s say that the first person is defined as the person who speaks. It can be singular or plural (a group of people). It will always include the person “yo” or “I” in English.
For example:
Yo vivo en Colombia.
Mi familia y yo (nosotros) vivimos en Colombia.Natalia, Enrique y yo (nosotros) comemos pizza los viernes.
Second person: The second person can be defined as the person who listens. It can be singular or plural (a group of people). It will always include “tú” or “usted”.
For example:
Tú vives en Boston.
Mariana y tú (ustedes) viven en Singapur. Carlos y usted comen (ustedes) paella los domingos.
Third person: The third person can be defined as the person being spoken about. It can be singular or plural (a group of people). It will always include “ella” o “él”.
For example:
Luisa (ella) canta muy bien.
Luisa y Daniel (ellos) cantan muy bien.
Mis amigas (ellas) viajan a México en octubre. Tu familia (ella) es muy grande.
